Chromosome Testing For Hematologic Disorders

Cytogenetic analysis of bone marrow and oncology blood is indicated for individuals with a medical history suggestive of a hematologic disorder (leukemias and lymphomas). Microscopic examination of both chromosome number and structure is routinely performed on 20 metaphase cells. Additional metaphases will be studied if needed. Whenever possible, two or more G-banded karyograms are created by computer image analysis for each patient.

If necessary, diagnostic FISH panel or confirmatory FISH analysis will be performed on the diagnostic specimen. The FISH findings on the diagnostic specimen will be used for the selection of follow-up FISH analysis.
